‘The Polyfoam Orange Book of XPS Insulation’ guide to XPS insulation launches
Extruded polystyrene manufacturer, Polyfoam XPS, has created a brand-new resource for designers and specifiers.
The Polyfoam Orange Book of XPS Insulation is a comprehensive guide to extruded polystyrene (XPS) and its performance characteristics. There are also pages of application-specific design guidance for flat roofs, ground floors and basements, swimming pools, and cavity insulation below damp proof course (DPC).
The publication’s name is designed to recall the detailed specification guides that used to be produced by manufacturers across different sectors of the construction industry.
“People still refer to guides named for different colours. They were considered the authority on their respective sector,” said Phil Hodges, National Sales Manager at Polyfoam XPS. “Websites are the first port of call for the latest product information, but we think the recognition of the value of those guides means there remains a place for them.”
Polyfoam XPS’s regular communication with the construction industry over the last decade includes regular blog posts, email newsletters and trade press articles.
“As a company we have produced a huge volume of writing that we’re very proud of,” said Rob Firman, Technical and Specification Manager. “However, it isn’t very easy for designers and specifiers to search that archive or find a natural starting point for learning about the benefits of XPS. The Polyfoam Orange Book of XPS Insulation has been designed to capture and distil our knowledge and expertise in a single reference source.”
The new book can support design and specification decisions for the entire building life cycle. As would be expected, it offers U-value guides for common build-ups that help with setting initial performance specifications. Then more detailed product and application specifications can be created thanks to typical details and installation advice.
The Polyfoam Orange Book of XPS Insulation also aims to lead the way in communicating transparently, accurately and responsibly about the life cycle impacts of XPS. It features detailed discussions looking at reuse, recycling and building adaptability, to aid the inclusion of end-of-life considerations in project planning and design stages.
