XPS stands for Extruded Polystyrene. Polyfoam XPS offers high quality, high performance, rigid, closed cell, extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation for use in domestic, commercial and industrial buildings.

XPS is lightweight, strong, moisture resistant and easy to cut and shape, providing thermal performance and strength for the lifetime of the building.
Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is unique among widely-available thermal insulation materials for its tolerance of damp or wet environments. That means it can be laid directly on prepared ground, with the DPM laid over it also acting as the separating layer between insulation and concrete – a saving of both time and membrane material.

An inverted roof is a type of warm roof construction, occasionally referred to as an ‘upside down’ or ‘protected membrane’ roof. Unlike a conventional warm roof build-up, the waterproofing is not installed as the outermost layer.

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is suitable for inverted flat roofs and is classified as suitable for the widest range of roof applications by European technical guidance. Thanks to its robustness, an inverted roof featuring an XPS insulation layer can be designed as any of the following:

Untrafficked roofs.
Pedestrian access/roof terraces.
Car parking decks.
Green roofs and roof gardens.

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is tolerant of damp or wet environments, meaning it can be installed externally of the basement structure and waterproofing without risk of its thermal performance being compromised.

Swimming pool basins are almost always insulated around the outside of their structure. Like its suitability for basement applications, extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation comes into its own. Its robustness when installed in contact with the ground, combined with its ability to bear the weight of concrete and water, makes it an excellent solution.

Polyfoam are always very helpful and provide information very quickly. The product is good and is still covered by a BBA certificate and is suitable for use in below slab ground floors on large buildings so it is perfect for what we need.

Installing an insulation product that was highly resistant to moisture absorption and could provide a line of defence against moisture penetration from the concrete slab was particularly needed for our project. What’s more, as XPS is a lightweight material it meant that installation was very quick and easy, which resulted in us coming across no problems and keeping on track in order to complete the projects on time.
