NEW ‘HANDYBOARD’ PRODUCT HELPS MAKE BETTER INSULATED HOMES EASIER TO ACHEIVE

A new product range from Polyfoam XPS is designed to make it easier for homeowners to achieve better levels of insulation in extension and retrofit projects.

Polyfoam Handyboard provides extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation boards for use by a range of installers – from experienced DIYers to professional building contractors. Offered in smaller board sizes than normal, the easy-to-handle products are intended for smaller projects and are shipped via standard courier services.

“Homeowners are more aware than ever of the importance of insulation in their properties,” said Phil Hodges, National Sales Manager at Polyfoam XPS. “Too often, installers are restricted in the insulation they can purchase because larger merchants only keep stock of the best-selling thicknesses.

“This can lead to people improvising insulation solutions on site or, worse, omitting insulation entirely. By offering insulation in a range of thicknesses and in smaller quantities, our aim is for the Handyboard to make it easier to achieve high-quality end results that improve comfort and lower energy bills.”

Polyfoam Handyboard can be bought directly from the Hartlepool-based insulation manufacturer, thanks to their recently-relaunched website now including e-commerce.

“Handyboard is designed to be used by a range of installers in a variety of applications, “said Rob Firman, Technical and Specification Manager at Polyfoam XPS.

“That includes experienced DIYers and competent contractors. However, if a user finds they need the support of a competent contractor or specialist installer, they can do so knowing they have purchased the exact solution they want to see in their home. That’s important when knowledge levels about current standards and correct installation vary among general builders.”

Installation instructions for common applications are included with the Handyboard product. Polyfoam XPS’s BBA certificates provide more specialist and detailed information, including relevant building regulations, and can be downloaded from the website.

Polyfoam are always very helpful and provide information very quickly. The product is good and is still covered by a BBA certificate and is suitable for use in below slab ground floors on large buildings so it is perfect for what we need.

With its British Board of Agrement (BBA) certificate I was reassured that Polyfoam insulation had all the right accreditations and could provide sufficient compressive strength to carry the applied loads.

Installing an insulation product that was highly resistant to moisture absorption and could provide a line of defence against moisture penetration from the concrete slab was particularly needed for our project. What’s more, as XPS is a lightweight material it meant that installation was very quick and easy, which resulted in us coming across no problems and keeping on track in order to complete the projects on time.
