POLYFOAM XPS SETS THE STANDARD

POLYFOAM XPS SETS THE STANDARD

Polyfoam™ XPS insulation manufacturer has been awarded two prestigious certifications following an external audit by Bureau Veritas (BV).

Awarded by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) for achieving a ISO 50001 – Energy Management certification, the extruded polystyrene manufacturer has also received a British Standard Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Specification (OHSAS) 18001 accreditation.

ISO 50001 showcases Polyfoam XPS’s commitment to manage its energy use as the company provided evidence of developing and implementing an energy policy, setting targets for energy use and designing action plans to reach them. The certification, which is not mandatory for the industry, came after a thorough audit by third party assessors, Bureau Veritas (BV).

Auditors were impressed by Polyfoam XPS‘s achievable targets for improved energy efficiency, data gathering techniques which helped the company better understand energy use and consumption, as well as its continuous improvement of energy management.

Awarded the British Standard Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Specification (OHSAS) 18001, Polyfoam XPS surpassed audits by demonstrating its outstanding occupational health and safety management best practice at its headquarters in Hartlepool, Teesside. The manufacturer showcased its policies, procedures and controls in place to help achieve best possible working conditions and workplace health and safety for its employees, aligned to internationally recognised best practice.

ISO 50001 - Energy Management certification

The certification, which is also a voluntary requirement, confirms Polyfoam XPS’s commitment to the excellent standards it achieves. The company has procedures in place to engage and motivate its staff with better, safer working conditions, and demonstrates compliance to customers and suppliers.

Commenting on both certificates, Stuart Bell, MD at Polyfoam XPS, said: “To voluntarily embark on two certification audits showcases our absolute dedication and professionalism to not only our customers, but stakeholders and the wider construction industry – and we are delighted to have been awarded these two prestigious accreditations.
ISO OHSAS 18001“We all know energy consumption is on the rise and according to ISO, it has more than doubled in the last 40 years and is projected to increase by up to 30% by 2030. Although ISO 50001 is not mandatory, we also felt an obligation to achieve this certification to help protect and conserve our energy sources. Achieving BS OHSAS 18001 shows that our people, and health and safety, is at the forefront of everything we do. “To be awarded both certificates cements our commitment to the industry, and we hope this resonates across the market.”

Polyfoam are always very helpful and provide information very quickly. The product is good and is still covered by a BBA certificate and is suitable for use in below slab ground floors on large buildings so it is perfect for what we need.

With its British Board of Agrement (BBA) certificate I was reassured that Polyfoam insulation had all the right accreditations and could provide sufficient compressive strength to carry the applied loads.

Installing an insulation product that was highly resistant to moisture absorption and could provide a line of defence against moisture penetration from the concrete slab was particularly needed for our project. What’s more, as XPS is a lightweight material it meant that installation was very quick and easy, which resulted in us coming across no problems and keeping on track in order to complete the projects on time.
