IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW PROVIDES INSIGHT ON POLYFOAM XPS GROUND FLOOR SOLUTIONS

An in-depth Q&A feature in the latest issue of Contract Flooring Journal (CFJ) gives readers new background about Polyfoam XPS and the company’s role in providing ground floor insulation solutions.

The article switches the spotlight, after several years of Polyfoam XPS providing technical articles, features and opinion pieces to the highly regarded publication, produced by the Contract Flooring Association (CFA).

“We’re used to putting our knowledge of ground floor specification and construction into words for CFJ,” said Phil Hodges, National Sales Manager at Polyfoam XPS.

“Being asked to do a Q&A instead, focusing more on us as a company and my role in the business, was a little unusual! But, of course, we were pleased to be asked.”
The interview’s publication comes at a time when CFJ is expanding the scope of its content beyond floor finishes.

“We’ve supported CFJ with content since 2018,” explains Phil. “In that time, we’ve seen the CFA broaden the scope of the journal’s coverage to look at the complete ground floor construction, rather than just how a floor is finished.

“It’s important to understand that a flooring contractor’s work can be impacted by the quality of the floor build-up underneath. There are several unseen layers, including insulation, and they all contribute to the success of a flooring installation.

“The more information we can put out to raise knowledge levels about floor constructions generally, the better those floors will perform. And the less likely that contractors will get called back to correct something that isn’t their fault.”

Polyfoam are always very helpful and provide information very quickly. The product is good and is still covered by a BBA certificate and is suitable for use in below slab ground floors on large buildings so it is perfect for what we need.

With its British Board of Agrement (BBA) certificate I was reassured that Polyfoam insulation had all the right accreditations and could provide sufficient compressive strength to carry the applied loads.

Installing an insulation product that was highly resistant to moisture absorption and could provide a line of defence against moisture penetration from the concrete slab was particularly needed for our project. What’s more, as XPS is a lightweight material it meant that installation was very quick and easy, which resulted in us coming across no problems and keeping on track in order to complete the projects on time.
