Flat roof – car park deck
With advances in materials technology and production processes, the boundaries between the traditional functions of structural building elements have become blurred. A flat roof, for example, is no longer confined to acting simply as a roof; it is just as likely to be expected to serve the functions of a floor, and a heavy duty one at that where car park decks are concerned.
A car park deck is essentially a variation on a conventional warm flat roof – but one where the imposed loads, due to vehicle weights, are significant and therefore require an insulation material capable of bearing them.
Extruded polystyrene (XPS), with its superior load-bearing performance, provides a flat, strong and dimensionally stable base for the deck overlay. A typical car park deck construction sees the insulation layer covered by a separating layer, before the installation of a screed and mastic asphalt waterproofing.
Polyfoam XPS Ltd is a leading manufacturer of closed cell, extruded polystyrene insulation. The Polyfoam range is lightweight, strong, moisture resistant and easy to cut and shape, providing thermal performance and strength for the lifetime of the building. Recommended Polyfoam XPS products for car park deck applications are:
