Flat roof – car park deck
A car park deck is essentially a variation on a conventional warm flat roof – but a warm roof where the imposed loads, due to vehicle weights, are significant and therefore require an insulation material capable of bearing them.
Extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation, with its superior load-bearing performance, provides a flat, strong and dimensionally stable base for the deck overlay. A typical car park deck construction sees the insulation layer covered by a separating layer, screed, and mastic asphalt or liquid-applied waterproofing.
What Polyfoam XPS products are suitable for car park decks?
Polyfoam XPS Ltd is a leading manufacturer of closed cell, extruded polystyrene insulation. The Polyfoam range is lightweight, strong, moisture resistant and easy to cut and shape, providing thermal performance and strength for the lifetime of the building.
Thanks to its superior compressive strength, Polyfoam Roofboard Super provides a durable, high performance insulation solution capable of withstanding the loads imposed by parked and moving vehicles. Product benefits include:
- 15mm lap joint overlap.
- Excellent thermal performance.
- High compressive strength.
- Highly resistant to water absorption.
- Able to resist repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
- Lightweight and easy to install.
- Tough and durable, not easily damaged.
- Dimensionally stable
An important part of flat roof design is the detailing and construction of suitable upstands around the roof edge, and Polyfoam Upstand Board limits heat loss due to thermal bridging at the junction of the flat roof with the external wall.
